House of Cards (S5 - E2)Sample

House of worship
If there is one moment in the Gospels where you see Jesus truly angry, it is here. He enters the temple and drives out those who have turned it into a marketplace. The Chosen portrays this scene powerfully as Jesus declares, “My house shall be a house of prayer.”
No commerce. No trading. No ruckus. Only prayer.
There is a clear challenge here for the church to consider. Is the church, first and foremost, a place of prayer?
When Jesus restores the temple to its true purpose, two things follow. The blind and the lame come in and are healed, and children begin crying out “Hosanna.” Commerce and ruckus make way for healing and worship.
Can you picture it? Prayer. Healing. Worship.
By clearing space, Jesus makes room for what the temple was always meant to be. It becomes a place where God is honored and people are restored.
This passage also turns the focus inward. Scripture describes believers as God’s dwelling place – His living temple. So consider, what fills your life? What takes up the space?
Busyness? Commerce? Possessions? Drama?
If Jesus removed the distractions, what would fill the space? Prayer, gratitude, compassion for those around you, worship, rest?
Do you long for that kind of space in your life, where healing, restoration, and worship can take place without being crowded out? Jesus does not clear space to condemn. He clears space to restore.
Reflection Questions
- What do you think of Jesus’ actions in the temple?
- What currently fills most of the space in your life?
- What would you like to ask Jesus today?
Prayer
Lord, thank You for restoring things to their true purpose. Thank You for creating space where prayer, healing, and worship can happen. I invite You to reorder my life and remove what distracts me from You. Lord, let my life overflow with Your presence. Amen.
