I FEEL... Like I Don’t Matter

DAY 1 OF 5

God Sees Me When Others Don’t

“’You are the God who sees me,’ for she said, ‘I have now seen the One who sees me.’” – Genesis 16:13b (NIV)

There are seasons when life continues quietly, but the heart grows tired. Responsibilities remain, routines continue, and expectations are still present, yet appreciation fades. You do what needs to be done, often without complaint, and little attention is given. Over time, this can quietly shape how you see yourself. You begin to wonder whether your presence truly makes much difference.

Hagar found herself in such a place. She was far from home, carrying a burden she had not chosen, and easily forgotten by those around her. From a human perspective, her life seemed insignificant. She had little power, little voice, and little protection.

Yet it was there, in that overlooked place, that God met her.

Scripture tells us that the Lord spoke to her personally, listened to her distress, and gave her direction. In response, Hagar gave God a name: “The God who sees me.” She had discovered that even in isolation, she was fully known by Him.

Many people live faithfully in unseen places. Parents who show up day after day. Workers who carry responsibility without recognition. Believers who pray quietly and serve faithfully. Their obedience may not attract attention, but it never escapes God’s notice.

Being seen by God does not always change our circumstances immediately. But, it changes our understanding. It reminds us that our lives are not small in His eyes.

Today, rest in this truth: you are not invisible to the One who matters most.

Prayer
God, when I feel unnoticed or overlooked, remind me that You see me clearly. Help me trust Your care more than human recognition. Teach me to rest in Your faithful attention. Amen.
