Wisdom's CallSample

By starting this plan on the book of Proverbs, you are starting a journey, one which has a clear path. The path is wisdom.
The definition of a proverb is “a brief statement which expresses wisdom, gives advice, or tells you something about life”. Through this definition, we can already know that the book of Proverbs will be one about wisdom.
The primary author of Proverbs is Solomon, the son of King David. And if there ever was someone qualified to write on this subject, it’s him! If we look at 1 Kings 3:5-14, we are reminded of the dream that is recorded where God speaks to Solomon and asks him, “What do you want? Ask and I will give it to you!”, and Solomon’s response was “give me an understanding mind”. God was so pleased with this request that He replied to Solomon, “I will give you a wise and understanding mind such as no one else has ever had or ever will have!”.
And who was Proverbs written to? Was it written to the old man who has already lived a full life, or to the mature adult? In verse 4, it says: These proverbs will make the simple-minded clever. They will give knowledge and purpose to young people. Proverbs was written specifically to young people; it was written to you!
Throughout this book, we are going to see different types of people repeatedly mentioned: the wise, the simple and the foolish. And the poems and proverbs we read will give us clear direction on how to become wise.
So let’s see this book for what it really is, an instruction manual or toolbox specifically designed for young people to grow in wisdom and fear of the Lord.
Ask yourself, are you ready? Are you ready to grow, to receive knowledge, to be challenged, to be corrected and even to receive discipline, but also to be encouraged and excited by the person God wants to mould you into?
Commit yourself to this journey, this path. These 31 days can truly transform and set the course for how you live your life. Wisdom is calling you; it’s time to respond.
“Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Only fools despise wisdom and discipline”. V.7
