5 Strategic Mental Health Memory VersesSample

Perfect Peace for a Restless Mind
Memory Verse
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3 NIV
Elijah was a man who loved God. He was a prophet and a hero of the faith. He prophesied drought and it happened. He prayed for food and ravens delivered it. He even prayed for a widow’s son to come back from the dead … and he did.
But Elijah also battled anxiety, exhaustion, depression, and burnout.
When we consider those thoughts together–that Elijah was a hero of the faith and he struggled with mental health–they combine to form an important truth: If you’re struggling, it doesn’t mean you lack faith. It means you’re human.
At Elijah’s lowest moment, God met him there. Not in the extraordinary, but in the ordinary. Not in the chaos, but in the quiet. God was in the whisper.
God whispers because He’s close—and because He always wants to draw you close.
One of the most powerful ways to invite God’s whisper into your journey toward mental health is meditating on and memorizing strategic Bible verses.
Over the next few days, I want to offer you five powerful, yet simple, mental health memory verses.
Note: This plan contains discussions related to mental health, which may include descriptions of anxiety, depression, trauma, or other emotional struggles. It is not a substitute for professional advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you’re experiencing mental health challenges, please seek the guidance of a qualified healthcare provider or contact a mental health professional in your area.
Experience the Peace of God
Isaiah 26:3 is an anchor for those walking through seasons of struggle. What can seem like just words can become truth written on your heart. God doesn’t just promise peace, but perfect peace. This verse carried me through a season of burnout and was one I repeated over and over.
The Hebrew word behind “peace” is shalom. But Isaiah doesn’t just write shalom once. He doubles it: shalom, shalom. That’s like peace squared. Exponential peace. And who receives this peace? “Those whose minds are steadfast,” or as another translation says, those “whose thoughts are fixed on you.”
That word “fixed” is powerful. It means to prop up, or to rest your full weight on something solid. If life feels heavy—if your thoughts won’t stop racing—this verse offers an invitation: Rest that weight on God. Let Him hold what you can’t carry.
Memorization Practice
- Write Isaiah 26:3 on a piece of paper or in your notes app.
- Read it once out loud, then underline or highlight the words that stand out to you most.
- Read it again slowly, focusing especially on those words.
- Close your eyes and try to repeat as much of the verse as you can from memory.
- Continue until the words start to stick.
