Cultural Currents and the Counselor

DAY 4 OF 4

Consumerism vs. Costly Mission

We live in an age where consumerism is king. Advertisers constantly tell us what we need to be satisfied, drawing us into a cycle of accumulation. This mindset can even pervade our spiritual lives, where church becomes another consumer choice and the Gospel a product to enjoy.

Yet, Jesus calls us not to be mere consumers but active participants in His mission. The Holy Spirit empowers us for a mission that requires sacrifice and courage. Jesus promised that we would receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, enabling us to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth.

This mission is not about our comfort; it's about carrying the message of the Gospel to those who haven't heard it. It's about moving beyond self-indulgence to self-sacrifice, embracing the mission God has set before us.

Reflect on your life: Where might you be stuck in a cycle of consumerism? How can you shift your focus to participate in God's mission? Commit to being a witness to His love and power, trusting the Holy Spirit to equip and guide you.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to move beyond consumerism to embrace Your mission. Empower me with Your Holy Spirit to be a bold witness for the Gospel. Transform my perspective from self-centeredness to self-sacrifice, always seeking to glorify You in all I do. Amen.
