Man the Right Gate: Escaping the Deceptive Pursuit of Provision by Patrick OmukhangoSample

Guarding the Wrong Gate
Imagine a soldier standing faithfully at a gate for years—alert, disciplined, committed—only to discover one day that he was guarding the wrong gate. All his energy, loyalty, and sacrifice were real, but they were misdirected. This image mirrors the quiet struggle of many believers today. We are sincere, hardworking, and responsible, yet much of our effort is spent guarding provision instead of purpose.
From the beginning, God never designed humanity to live obsessed with survival. Before Adam ever worked, God planted the garden. Provision existed before purpose. Adam was not placed in Eden to scramble for food but to steward what God had already provided. His role flowed from trust, not anxiety; from relationship, not fear.
Over time, humanity shifted its attention. The pursuit of provision began to dominate the heart. What was once a gift became a fixation. We began waking early, staying up late, and measuring faithfulness by exhaustion. Yet Scripture reminds us that zeal in the wrong assignment is still disobedience.
Jesus calls us back to order. Seek first the Kingdom. Not after bills are paid. Not after security is guaranteed. First. When the Kingdom becomes primary, provision becomes supplemental. But when provision becomes primary, purpose quietly slips away.
This is not a call to laziness or irresponsibility. Work is good. Diligence is biblical. But work must flow from calling, not replace it. Provision is meant to serve God’s purpose—not compete with it.
Today’s invitation is simple but searching: Which gate are you guarding? The gate of survival, or the gate of assignment? God has never stopped being your Provider. When you return to the gate He assigned, provision will follow you there.
