The Gospel - John

DAY 1 OF 61

A light that tells of a new beginning

The Gospel of John begins by introducing Jesus. Jesus is the Creator who made everything in the world. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. Jesus also came to this earth in person. Although He is God, He came wearing human flesh and came for us. However, people rejected such a Jesus and did not recognise that He was the Son of God. But to those who received Him, He gave the right to become children of God. John the Baptist also cried out in the wilderness, testifying to Jesus to the people. He introduced Jesus as someone far greater than himself and who existed before he was born. Until now, no one had seen God, but now we can know God through Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

| Observation

1. What expression describe Jesus? (John 1:1–4)
2. What kind of change happens within us through Jesus? (John 1:4–8)

| Application

1. What kind of person is God?

He is the true light who came with life. Any effort to shine the light of life to save humanity dwelling in darkness will ultimately fail without Him. Through the meditation on the Gospel of John, I pray to become a witness filled with grace who clearly shines this light in my life.

2. What lesson is God giving me?

Becoming a child of God is like being born. It is not by one’s choice or effort, or by being born of someone, but it is only possible through God. Only when we believe in Jesus and are born again spiritually do we become children of God. Believing and being born again in the name of Jesus means not only accepting Jesus as the Lord of my life but also includes my complete surrender to Jesus. Because we believed and were born again through Jesus, how is the truth that we are newly born children of God being revealed in our lives?
