Loved Beyond Measure — a Celebration of God’s LoveSample

Day 1 – Loved Before You Ever Knew Him
In my You Are Loved series, I’ve had the privilege of sitting across from so many men and women who have walked through some of the darkest chapters life can throw at you—addiction, abandonment, jail, relapse, recovery homes, and everything in between. Time after time, their stories teach me something new about the unshakable, unstoppable, never-too-late love of God.
Tyler’s story is one I won’t forget.
He grew up wondering why love never seemed to stay. Passed around from one place to the next, he carried wounds that told him he wasn’t wanted. That something must be wrong with him. That he was forgettable, forgettable even to God.
But nothing could be further from the truth.
What Tyler didn’t know—what many of us forget—is that God’s love doesn’t begin when we behave better. His love was already reaching for Tyler long before Tyler ever reached back. Even in the chaos. Even in the confusion. Even when Tyler didn’t know who he was or where he belonged, he was still deeply known, seen, and loved by his Creator.
Romans 8 tells us that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Not our past. Not our brokenness. Not even the seasons where we don’t believe we’re worthy of it.
Tyler’s life didn’t change overnight. Healing rarely works that way. Little by little, through community, through truth, and through the gentle whisper of a Father who never gave up, Tyler began to believe what had always been true: he was loved—before he ever knew Him.
So are you.
Reflection:
- What parts of your story have made you question if you’re truly loved?
- Can you look back and see moments where God was loving you—even when you didn’t recognize it?
- What does it change in your life today to believe that God’s love came first?
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for loving me before I ever called on You. Help me recognize the ways You’ve been near, even when I didn’t see it. Heal the parts of me that still wonder if I’m worth loving. I want to live like someone who’s already loved, because I believe You’ve never stopped. In Jesus name, Amen.
