3 Days to Begin Again in GodSample

DAY 1 — Surrendering What No Longer Serves You
Poem: The Thinning
By Elaine Rumboll
A twig snaps beneath my boot
like brittle bone giving way.
The wilderness is not punishment.
It is a thinning,
a place where
what is not needed
starts to fall away.
Here,
questions grow heavier
and answers sink into silence.
Grief stalks the underbrush,
old certainties stripped of names.
Then, without explanation
the mist becomes path:
the trackline of the One
who does not leave,
even when you do.
Reflection
Longing for change often reveals the truth we’d rather avoid: there is a distance between the transformation we imagine and what still lives inside us. We want to begin again, yet we resist the surrender that makes beginning possible.
This poem names that truth gently but clearly. God sometimes leads us through a season of subtraction so we can finally see what is essential.
The thinning is not punishment.
It is preparation.
When the familiar is stripped away, God’s nearness becomes the one steady thing. The new path rarely appears before surrender—only after we loosen our grip and let God lead us into beginning again.
Scripture
Hosea 2:14 — “I will lead her into the wilderness and speak tenderly to her.”
Psalm 73:23 — “Yet I am always with You; You hold me by my right hand.”
Prayer
God, loosen my grip on what cannot come with me into the life You are shaping.
Let this wilderness be a place of tenderness, not fear.
I trust You to reveal the next step, even when I cannot see it yet.
Amen.
Power Question to Sit With
What am I still holding that God may be inviting me to release—and what scares me most about letting it go?
Scripture
About this Plan

Start again—gently, honestly, and with God beside you. There are seasons when what still needs healing rises to the surface: the weariness we hide, the fears we swallow, and the quiet longing to begin again. This three-day invitation offers poems from the number one, best-selling, new religious poetry release on Amazon: Unfinished Faith, paired with scripture, reflection, prayer, and a contemplative question for your day. Discover God in the wilderness, in the ordinary, and in the soft light returning to your life. Come as you are. Begin where you are. Let your heart begin again with God.
