Love and Unity: The Philippians 2 Challenge With Chip Ingram

DAY 1 OF 4

Choosing Love in the Midst of Conflict

Paul addresses internal tension within the Philippian church, particularly a conflict between two women whose disagreement was dividing the community. Believers were picking sides, and unity was under threat. Paul emphasizes that the key to resolving conflict is not avoiding it, but choosing love. God’s love, agape love, which goes beyond feelings or fairness.

Choosing love means responding to others based on what Christ has done for us, not how we’ve been treated. It’s an active, intentional decision that transforms hearts and relationships. This is the love that makes unity possible, allowing communities to thrive even amidst disagreement. Paul encourages believers to have the same mind, maintain the same love, and be united in spirit and purpose.

Unity is a choice, not a feeling. It requires humility, patience, and intentional effort. When we choose love, we participate in God’s work of reconciliation, both in the Church and in the world. Christ-empowered unity is not superficial peace; it comes from a heart aligned with God, focused on building others up and glorifying Him.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What conflict in your life might God be asking you to approach differently?
  2. How can you intentionally choose God’s love in this situation?
