Jesus People Connect

DAY 1 OF 13

Jesus People Connect to Build

Real life is messy. So messy it can be tempting to hide in our prayer closets and ignore reality. But Christians aren’t called to hunker down until Christ’s return. We’re called to engage in this world. Jesus People believe the kingdom of heaven is at hand and are not content to cede ground to the Devil.

During the Jewish exile, news of Jerusalem’s broken-down gates reached Babylon. Nehemiah heard it, and his heart broke for his city. But instead of getting bummed out, he got busy. It was a big job—no single person could accomplish God’s call to rebuild, so Nehemiah recruited others. And together, they built a city of peace.

When Jesus People walk with God, we can't help but influence our society. Culture shakes. Our faithfulness changes empires, topples dictatorships, awakens countries, and revitalizes cities. But first, our hearts must break. We need hearts like Nehemiah's—hearts that say, “Send me… that I may rebuild” (Nehemiah 2:5).

Don’t let church become a spectator sport. Don’t sit in the stands, cheering on your favorite pastor as he builds the church. Building God’s kingdom isn't reserved for superhero Christians, and it doesn't happen just one day a week. Church is about connecting with others to understand God’s vision for His kingdom in our cities. The other six days, we continue to work as one body to build it.

About this Plan

Jesus People Connect

Salvation is about more than forgiveness for sin; it’s about being adopted into God’s family. But what good is a family that never connects? It may be messy—it might require checking our selfishness at the door—but connecting is necessary. In this thirteen-part devotional from Calvary Church, we’ll look at key verses that demonstrate why Jesus People gather, and what we can accomplish when we do.
