When God Interrupts Our SuccessSample

When God Interrupts Our Success

DAY 1 OF 5

Devotional
King Nebuchadnezzar stands at the peak of success. He is powerful, admired, and seemingly untouchable—much like someone who has “made it” in today’s world. His empire is expanding, his influence is unmatched, and his achievements are visible to all. Yet in the middle of this success, God interrupts his comfort with a disturbing dream.

The great tree in the dream represents Nebuchadnezzar’s life—strong, productive, admired, and providing shade to many. But the sudden cutting down of the tree reveals a sobering truth: no matter how high we rise, our lives are not self-sustaining. For young professionals and students in urban India, this hits close to home. Degrees, promotions, startups, salaries, and social validation can slowly convince us that we are in control. We begin to believe our intelligence, hustle, or networking is the source of our success.

God’s warning through the dream is not cruel—it is kind. He is reminding the king (and us) that success without humility is fragile. When we forget God as the source, success can quietly become our identity. This passage invites us to pause and ask: Who do I really credit for where I am today?

Application Questions:

  1. In your studies, career, or plans, where are you tempted to believe “I achieved this on my own”?
  2. How do you usually respond when God disrupts your comfort or certainty?
  3. What would it look like to consciously acknowledge God as the source of your abilities and opportunities this week?

Prayer:
God, thank You for every opportunity, ability, and door You’ve opened in my life. Forgive me for the moments I forget that You are the source of it all. Guard my heart from pride and self-reliance. Help me to hold success with gratitude, not ownership. Teach me to live aware that my life is sustained by You. Amen.
