The Priest that Understands

"During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission." Hebrews 5:7 (NIV)

We have all felt alone in our struggles. Every day we are tempted to think that no one truly understands what we are going through. Today, the book of Hebrews will reveal a reality that changes your battle in this moment:

Jesus completely understands each of your battles.

What a mystery! The Son of God, perfect and without sin, chose to descend and experience human life in all its difficulty and anguish. He did not visit the earth as a tourist from heaven, observing life, culture, and people's pain from afar. He fully entered into the human experience. Hebrews tells us that Jesus offered prayers "with loud cries and tears." He wept with sorrow. He prayed in desperation. He knew the anguish of this life.

What does this mean for you today? It means that you can bring your struggles to Jesus without fear or shame.

That temptation that seems impossible to overcome? He understands.

That pain that no one else seems to understand or sympathize with? He feels it with you.

That moment when choosing obedience seems too costly? He knows that weight.

Jesus did not learn obedience because He was rebellious or disobedient, but because He experienced the real cost of following God's will in this completely broken, unjust, and dark world. And because He went through this, He can help us through our own journeys with genuine compassion, without pretense, without insensitivity. He truly understands you.

You don't need to pretend that everything is okay when it's not in His presence. You don't need to hide your weaknesses from Jesus. He already knows them and, even so, loves you perfectly. In fact, it is precisely in your weakness that you can most deeply experience His grace and understanding... and His power!

Today, whatever challenge you face, don't forget that you have a High Priest who not only has the power to help you, but who also completely understands you. He has been there. He knows. And He is with you now.

Jesus, the most important Person in the Universe, the One who sits on the Throne of greatest authority, understands you because He also knows that, just as He suffered for a purpose of God the Father, you too are called to something in God's history, just like Him. He doesn't look at you as if you're competing or betting, thinking that because He succeeded, you also have to win on your own. He looks, understands, and even now prays for you before the Father, as your High Priest.

And you, because of your reverence for Him, are also heard. The Holy Spirit will guide you in the truth of the Word and in His power for a new life to be like Jesus is.

My Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for choosing to fully experience human life. Thank You for understanding my struggles, my temptations, and my pains. Today, with reverence, I bring to You my weaknesses without shame, knowing that You have compassion on me. Help me to trust that You truly understand what I am going through and that You have the power and the love to sustain me and change my world. In Your name, Amen.
