The Gospel, What Is It?

DAY 1 OF 5

The Question at the Center of Our Faith

At the center of the Christian faith is a simple but important question: What is the gospel?
It’s a word we hear often, but one we don’t always slow down to define.

Through the writings of the apostle Paul, the Holy Spirit makes this clear: the gospel is not a lifestyle to adopt, but good news to receive—an announcement of what God has already done through Jesus Christ. Scripture describes this good news as the power of God for salvation, revealing God’s righteousness and calling us to respond in faith.

According to Scripture, salvation does not begin with our effort but with God’s grace. We are saved by grace through faith, not by works, so that no one can boast. The gospel starts with God’s action, not our performance.

Before we talk about growth, obedience, or purpose, we must return to this foundation. Everything else in the Christian life flows from how we understand the gospel.

Reflection

Before reading, how would you describe the gospel in your own words?
As you read these passages, what do you notice about how the Bible presents this good news?

About this Plan

The Gospel, What Is It?

What is the gospel—according to Scripture? This five-day plan examines the gospel as it is clearly defined in the New Testament Epistles. Rather than opinion or tradition, we let the apostles explain the meaning, power, and results of Christ’s finished work. This study helps believers gain clarity, deepen their understanding, and rediscover the gospel that saves, sustains, and transforms.
