Promises of God

DAY 1 OF 10

The Promise of Blessing

The promise that flows out of living close to God is unparalleled. The promise is that all these things will be added to you. No matter if you take this promise literally of food and clothing or spiritually, you and I have a part in the promise of blessing—seek Him. The richest blessing will come as you seek Him daily. If you sow bountifully into your secret life with God, you will reap an abundant bounty of peace and sense Him throughout your day. But if you sow sparingly, you will reap sparingly. Where you position God will affect the way He relates to you, and it will also influence the way you relate to others. Keep your vertical connection intact, and your horizontal relationships will flow out of your rooted devotion to Him. Your oneness with God is a direct reflection of your relationship with your heavenly Father, which will overflow into every aspect of your daily life. As you crave His presence in the quietness of your soul, He will reveal Himself to you (see John 14:21), and the things you need can flow out of the promise you already have.

You don’t need to ache for the things of this world, you don’t need to pursue them, and you don’t need to hunt them down. They will simply come to you. They will be added, one blessing on top of another. The blessings and favor of God will simply come to you without you needing to worry or concern yourself with it—that is what you can expect. However, seeking Him requires you to abide in Him; stay connected to the vine (see John 15:4), and His words will abide in you (see John 15:7). So, as you and I seek His kingdom first, all these things that we need and desire, everything of value will find you. He will become enough, and the craving of this world will fade in comparison with your relationship with Him. By taking care of God’s business as a priority, He will then take care of your business as promised. Entrust your day and your life to Him and watch Him work things out for your good and benefit. Slowly, His plans will collide with your desires to bring deep love for the ways of God.

Reflection:

Seek first His kingdom and all these things will be added unto you ... Is seeking Him first something hard for you to do? I know it can be hard for me at times, too. But the times I have fully trusted in Him and put Him before anything else, it brought peace. A peace I can’t explain. It can help bring clarity and insight as well, and will help put things into perspective.

In John 21:15, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” For Peter, “these” could have been the fish he caught, the other disciples, or his accomplishments. What if Jesus asked us, do you love me more than these? What would your “these" be? Will you choose to put Him before your “these” today?

If you do, He will order your days, and blessing will flow from your obedience to Him.
