Run the RaceSample

FOCUS
The New York Marathon attracts tens of thousands of runners every year. The course passes by some of the city’s most beautiful sights — across bridges, through parks, past cheering crowds. Anyone, who wanted to, could simply let themselves drift along and enjoy the atmosphere. However, those who want to reach the finish line need more than enthusiasm — they need endurance and focus.
The Bible compares our lives to a marathon. We’re all on the move, each running our own course with highs and lows along the way. The crucial point is not just that we run — it’s why. Those who know their goal run differently. They’re not easily distracted, and they know why they get up, persevere, and keep going.
Paul reminds us that we shouldn’t just run aimlessly through life. We should run with a clear goal in sight. That goal isn’t success, the fulfillment of all our desires, or a good feeling. The goal is Jesus Himself.
And the encouraging part is Jesus is both the goal of our journey as well as being our companion along the way. He runs with us like a pacemaker in a marathon, helping us find the right pace and direction.
Yet in the stress of everyday life, we can easily lose that focus. Between appointments, expectations, and to-do lists, we quickly forget what we’re really running for. Our attention becomes focused on what seems urgent instead of what truly matters. We think about all our immediate needs and wishes and lose sight of the bigger picture.
When Jesus is at the center, your race gains direction. You no longer focus on the current challenges, but on what endures. You don’t just live to get by — you live with purpose, for Him.
Sometimes this requires a conscious decision to realign your focus — away from what is seen toward what is unseen. Away from your circumstances toward the One who calls and accompanies you.
Today, amid the noise and business of daily life, pay attention to where Jesus can be found — both in the greater, significant moments and conversations as well as lesser moments and conversations.
