Naaman: From Pride to HumilitySample

Naaman: From Pride to Humility

DAY 1 OF 5

Day 1 – God Uses Small and Overlooked People

Scripture: 2 Kings 5:1–3

Naaman was a great commander, celebrated for his victories, wealthy, and highly favoured by the king of Syria. Yet beneath all the honour and power was a problem he could not fix; he was a leper. Leprosy was not only a physical affliction but a source of shame and exclusion. Despite all his achievements, Naaman carried a condition that threatened to make him helpless and ostracised from society.

In contrast to Naaman’s prominence, the story introduces an unnamed servant girl, captured from Israel and serving in Naaman’s household. By all appearances, she was powerless, invisible, and unimportant. Yet she became the key figure in the whole story. With mercy toward her captors and faith in the power of God, she said to Naaman’s wife, “If only my master would see the prophet in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.”

This young girl was an Israelite captive, yet her compassion for her captor revealed her true character. She could have remained silent, resentful, or afraid, but she chose instead to point Naaman to the source of healing. In doing so, she mirrors Christ’s heart for us, showing mercy and offering hope where it is neither deserved nor expected.

Like the girl in this story, we may feel small, hidden, or without influence, but God delights to use those who seem insignificant to accomplish His purposes. The girl tells Naaman about the prophet in Israel who could meet him in his place of need. In the same way, the greatest thing we can ever do with our lives is to point others to Jesus, who is not just a prophet but the true healer and Saviour.

Reflection: Am I willing to believe that God can use me, even when I feel overlooked or insignificant? Am I willing to show love, even to those who have mistreated me? Where can I point others to Jesus in my everyday life?

Prayer: Lord, help me to be like that servant girl, merciful, faithful, and bold to point people to You. Remind me that my significance is not in my status but in my willingness to trust and obey.

About this Plan

Naaman: From Pride to Humility

Naaman’s story in 2 Kings 5 shows us that God can use the most unlikely people and circumstances to bring us to Him. A powerful commander, Naaman had wealth, influence, and success, yet he also had leprosy, a condition he could not fix. His healing did not come through power or riches, but through humility and obedience to God’s word. This 5-day study explores how God uses the overlooked, calls us to trust Him in weakness, and invites us to humble obedience that leads to transformation.
