God Draws Us to Himself

One of the greatest gifts we can ever receive on earth is the gift of salvation. One reason for this is that we cannot earn salvation, no matter how much we try. The only part we play in salvation is agreeing to be saved. Salvation is a free gift from God, made available through the sacrifice that Jesus Christ endured.

When you look at history through the lens of the Bible, you’ll see that God created the earth without the intention for darkness or the devil to rule it. We were meant to fellowship with God throughout our lives, with no place for death or separation from Him. However, as a result of disobedience to God’s word, humanity surrendered its authority over the earth to the devil (Genesis 3). When the devil took that authority, evil began to reign, showing up in things like murder, drunkenness, sexual immorality, injustice, and more.

I share this background so you can understand the purpose of salvation: it is to restore us to our original position of authority and eternal fellowship with God.

Salvation happens when God draws us to Himself, and we respond by accepting Him as our Saviour (John 6:44). God draws people in different ways, and the Bible gives us many examples of this. His first disciples were drawn by the miracles they witnessed (Matthew 4). The Samaritan woman was drawn by the words of knowledge He spoke about her life (John 4). The madman of Gadara was drawn through the deliverance Jesus brought to him (Luke 8).

It’s important to understand that the way God draws you to Himself is not the end goal—it is the beginning. It is an invitation into a living relationship with Him, one that will transform your life and help you reclaim everything the devil stole from humanity at the beginning.
