Does the Devil Know Your Name? A 10-Day Brave Coaches Journey

DAY 7 OF 10

The Power of God’s Word

“Jesus said to him, ‘Away from me, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” Matthew 4:10

“The Bible that is falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn’t.” – Charles Spurgeon

When Jesus faced the devil in the wilderness, He didn’t argue, complain, or negotiate. He didn’t rely on His own reasoning or clever words. He declared Scripture: “It is written.” Each time Satan tempted Him, Jesus wielded the Word of God like a weapon—and the enemy fled. That moment teaches us that the Word is not just for study—it’s for battle.

The seven sons of Sceva tried to cast out demons with empty words, but they had no sword in their hands. They imitated Paul without intimacy, and they attempted to use spiritual authority without the weapon of truth. That’s why they failed. By contrast, Paul and Jesus both wielded the Word with power. Their authority came not from volume or position, but from standing on God’s eternal truth.

The Bible calls the Word of God the “sword of the Spirit.” It is the only offensive weapon in the armor of God. A sword is not for display—it’s for battle. Too many men leave their swords on the shelf, unopened and unused. But in spiritual warfare, an unused Bible is like an unloaded gun. The enemy is not impressed with dusty Bibles—he fears men who hide the Word in their hearts and declare it in faith.

Notice that the devil also knows Scripture. He twisted God’s Word when tempting Jesus. That means quoting verses without conviction or obedience has no power. But when a man lives in God’s Word—believing it, obeying it, and declaring it—the enemy is forced to retreat. Authority flows from men who don’t just know the Word but live by it.

The Word of God is alive and active. It cuts through lies, pierces darkness, and strengthens the weary. It anchors us in truth when culture shifts, it steadies us when emotions waver, and it equips us when temptation comes. The Bible is not just information—it is transformation.

Think about soldiers again: no warrior would go into battle without his weapon. But many Christian men try to face temptation, lead their families, and resist the devil without daily Scripture. That’s why they struggle and fall. If you want the enemy to know your name, let God’s Word be your weapon.

And here’s the beauty: you don’t have to master the whole Bible in one night. Start with one verse. Memorize it. Meditate on it. Declare it in prayer. Every verse you hide in your heart becomes another strike of the sword against the enemy. Over time, you build an arsenal that makes you dangerous to the kingdom of darkness.

The Brave Truth: An unopened Bible is a sheathed sword. Open it, declare it, live it—and watch the enemy retreat.

Action Step: Memorize one verse this week that you can use in prayer and spiritual battle.

Reflection Question: Am I actively using God’s Word as a weapon, or just letting it sit on the shelf?
