A Grateful Heart

DAY 4 OF 5

Today is a Good Day

God’s Word tells us that each day has enough trouble of its own. From the moment we wake up until we go to sleep, we experience the normal situations of life. For some, it will be a daily routine that only occasionally brings up something that needs attention. For others who work in more dynamic situations, the day will bring bigger issues that must be faced.

Jesus gives us great advice by telling us not to worry. He knows that worry is a state of the soul that doesn't allow us to enjoy His peace. Being anxious is something that shifts our focus from the Lord to what is worrying us. Some examples Jesus gives us are: worry about what we will eat or drink, what we will wear, or worry about tomorrow, which hasn't even arrived yet.

Today is a gift from God. Today is a good day to praise His name and thank Him for all His benefits. King David spoke to his soul so it wouldn't forget the benefits it received from the Lord. “Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” Psalm 103:1–2 (NIV)

When we are aware of God's grace toward us and how it is shown in our lives every day, our hearts produce acts of thanksgiving that glorify and exalt Him. We can have a smile in our soul and laughter on our lips.

This is a place where our soul rests, confident that the One who acted on our behalf before will also do so today and tomorrow.

Knowing that the Lord's eyes are upon us, and that His care for our lives is guaranteed by His love, should bring us a feeling of rest and peace. Jesus didn't tell us we would be exempt from difficult situations. His advice was aimed at keeping our eyes on the Father. His beautiful and encouraging words were: “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew 6:26 (NIV)

Today is a good day to tell the Lord how much we love Him, how grateful we are for Him, and to pray believing that He can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV)

Today is a good day to cast our anxiety on Him, knowing that He cares for us. “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)

A grateful heart can always find reasons to offer praise and thanks. In this five-day plan, we’ll take a journey together to explore genuine thankfulness, the kind that goes beyond our current situation and rests in the blessings we’ve received from our Heavenly Father. We’ll go a little deeper than just saying "Thank you" to really experience profound gratitude.
