Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 195 OF 365

And that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures [the Old Testament], which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 3:15 NKJV).

Could you lead someone to Jesus from the Old Testament?

Apollos was skilled at this for scripture says that he, “vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, showing from the Scriptures [the Old Testament] that Jesus is the Christ” (Acts 18:28 NKJV). Likewise, Peter preached about Jesus in Acts 2:27, quoting Psalm 16:10 (NKJV), “For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.” Both Apollos and Peter demonstrated an understanding of the Old Testament that we should strive to imitate.

So, let me ask you, could you use the Old Testament to share the Gospel? If not, it would be wise to talk with your pastors and create a Bible memory strategy to obtain this much-needed skill! Then study the Old Testament prophecies about Jesus and practice explaining how they point to Christ.

Employment Point: Be able to guide people to Jesus from the Old Testament.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
