Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 169 OF 365

For the joy of the LORD is your strength (Nehemiah 8:10 NKJV).

What happens when you allow God to energize you through His word?

Nehemiah and the people submitted to God and followed the Lord’s will! In return, God empowers His people, enabling the rebuilding of Jerusalem's wall in just fifty-two days (Nehemiah 6:15). With the city secure, the focus shifts to spiritual renewal. The reading of God's Word humbles the Israelites: “For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the Law” (Nehemiah 8:9 NKJV). Nehemiah encourages them to embrace joy in their newfound obedience, saying, “Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10 NKJV).

The book of Nehemiah teaches us that our strength comes from God, who energizes those who seek Him. When we align with His will and immerse ourselves in His Word, He gives us the energy and motivation to overcome challenges.

Employment Point: Celebrate God’s goodness and allow His joy to energize you.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
