Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 158 OF 365

Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits (1 Corinthians 15:33 NKJV).

Will you continue to stand when your spiritual advisers leave this earth?

Today, we contrast two different followers. One who stops seeking the Lord after their spiritual adviser dies, and another group which follows the Lord after Jesus leaves the earth.

King Joash thrived under the guidance of godly Jehoiada but faltered after his death, leading to idolatry (2 Chronicles 24:2, 17). Unlike Joash, the apostles continued Jesus’ work after His ascension because Jesus prepared them for His departure and subsequent opposition (John 16:16-33). Jesus offers peace amidst tribulation, overcoming the world (John 16:33).

We do well to identify and seek advice from a godly mentor. Regularly reflect on and apply their teachings to your life. So, when their time comes to depart from this world, you can stay strong in the faith.

Employment Point: Apply what your godly spiritual advisors teach you, so that you remain steadfast in the faith.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
