Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 148 OF 365

These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ (John 20:31 NKJV).

Do you know that trials can be a blessing to help build your faith?

Consider Lazarus, whose very name, meaning “God is my help,” resonates with his story. He shares a close bond with Jesus, along with his sisters Mary and Martha. When Lazarus falls ill, his sisters reach out to Jesus for help, but instead of immediately healing him, Jesus allows Lazarus to die. Why? He reveals, “I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, that you may believe” (John 11:15 NKJV). Jesus uses this situation to deepen the faith of Martha, Mary, and His disciples.

Just as Jesus allowed Lazarus to experience death to strengthen their faith, He may allow trials in our lives to deepen our trust in Him. Let's embrace these challenges as opportunities for growth and allow our faith to deepen, rather than remain shallow. Reflect on a recent trial or challenge in your life. How did it impact your faith? Also, did it help you to mature? James writes, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience” (James 1:2-3 NKJV).

Employment Point: Trust Jesus during a trial, which will build your faith.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
