Loving Your Wife Sacrificially
Ephesians 5:25 - "Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." (ESV)
Sacrificial love isn't always romantic, and it's rarely easy, but it's always powerful. Ephesians 5:25 clearly and challengingly calls husbands to love their wives the way Christ loves the church—with humility, strength, and selflessness.
This doesn't mean you have to be perfect. It means you lead with love, put her needs ahead of your own, and create a safe, grace-filled space for her to thrive. In the ordinary, daily moments—choosing patience in an argument, taking initiative when she's overwhelmed, speaking with kindness when you're tired—that sacrificial love is shown.
Jesus laid down His life for the church. That's our model—not a passive, disengaged love but an active, pursuing, serving love. You don't need to save the world to love your wife well. But you do need to give your best to her—not your leftovers.
When you love her this way, your marriage reflects Christ's love for His people. It brings glory to God and deep joy into your home. Even when it's hard, your commitment plants seeds God can use to transform hearts—yours and hers.
Whether your marriage is thriving or struggling, you can love like Christ today. Start with humility. Add patience. Serve her even when it's inconvenient. Speak life over her. And keep showing up.
Challenge:
Write down one tangible way to love your wife sacrificially today. Then do it, expecting nothing in return.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for showing me what real love looks like. Help me to love my wife the way You love me—with grace, humility, and sacrifice. Teach me to serve her heart well. Amen.
