Day 5: The Master Builder’s Tools

Could you imagine a house built without the proper tools? If a storm ever comes through, the house is probably going to be destroyed to some degree. But a builder, who uses the proper tools and uses them appropriately to build a house, will have effectively provided the house the stability it needs to withstand the storms. God, as the ultimate builder, will use various tools – trials, experiences, scripture, and others – to build us into the people he wants us to be.

First, trials develop our endurance in our journey with God. There is not one person that hasn’t faced trials in their life, even Jesus faced trials when He was here on earth. But as we go through trials, we can see that God was, is, and will continue to be faithful and good even in the smallest or largest of circumstances. Even more so, the experiences we have can help build us into the sons or daughters God wants us to be. We experience life in every single moment. Some are great, some are bad, but even in the most average of days, God can use those experiences to see just how awesome He is.

Lastly, our time in God’s word and with God’s people can help us become more like Jesus. God’s word tells us who He is and how to follow and live like Him. There are countless testimonies throughout history that show that following Jesus versus following the world leads to life-giving moments for Christ followers and those around them. God’s word also tells us that we can’t follow Jesus alone. We need other Christ followers to push us to live like Jesus and to obey Him.

All in all, these things mentioned above are not the only tools God is using to make us more like Him. When we turn to Him with every part of our lives, we get to experience Heaven here on Earth.

Application: Look back at your life and think about everything you have been through. How has God shown up faithfully for you? How has God used these tools to prepare you into the house he is building?
