When Tithing Feels Impossible: 3 Truths That Free You From Financial Guilt

DAY 3 OF 3

Partnership Over Performance

2 Corinthians 8:12 NIV says, "For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have."

Paul just destroyed every guilt-based giving argument in one sentence.

Notice what makes a gift "acceptable" to God: willingness, not amount. Your heart posture matters infinitely more than your percentage calculation.

"According to what one has, not according to what one does not have."

This isn't about lowering the bar - it's about understanding that God's economy operates on different principles than religious obligation.

So what does this look like when tithing feels impossible but your heart wants to give?

It looks like partnership:

  • Start with honest conversation - "God, I want to give, but here's my reality. Show me how to be generous within my actual situation."
  • Give what you can with faith - Maybe it's $5 this month, but you're trusting God to multiply both your gift and your capacity
  • Partner in the process - "I want to give $X, but I need You to show me how to make that possible"

Just to be clear, this doesn't mean we avoid the Biblical precedent set with tithing - it just means we pursue it through partnership rather than pressure.

Because here's what I've discovered:

God is far more interested in growing your trust than collecting your tithe.

When you give "according to what you have" with a willing heart, something supernatural happens.

You start experiencing God as your provider rather than your creditor.

You begin to see opportunities instead of obligations. Your faith grows not because you gave more, but because you trusted more.

What if God was never waiting for your perfect percentage? What if He was waiting for your willing partnership?

Your grocery budget and your giving can both be acts of faith when you're walking in partnership with a faithful God who sees, knows, and provides.

Let’s pray: God, I offer You my willingness to give, even when resources are tight. Show me how to partner with You in generosity and help me trust Your faithfulness as I take steps of faith. I want to be Your partner in this.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

It's the operating manual we (a broke, middle-class couple) followed to pay off over $400k of debt and give $1M by my 40th birthday.

The roadmap in this book will help you earn more, save more, pay off debt, and have more fun giving than you thought possible… all without a hint of guilt or shame.

As a thank you for completing this plan, I'd love to give you a copy of the book (if you can cover S&H). Sound good?
