Refresh My Soul: Discovering God’s Promises for a Purposeful LifeSample

Day 21: Courage to Say Yes
Can you just imagine Peter looking out across the water and hearing Jesus call him to do something that defied logic? That night, stepping out of the boat wasn’t just about overcoming fear—it was about responding in bold faith to a personal invitation.
The disciples were in a boat, struggling against the wind and waves. Jesus came to them, walking on the water. Peter, longing to be near Him and willing to risk everything, said, “Lord, if it’s You, tell me to come.” Jesus answered, “Come.” And Peter stepped out, walking toward Him.
But when Peter noticed the wind and waves, he became frightened and began to sink. He cried out,
"Lord, save me!" Immediately, Jesus reached out His hand and caught him, saying, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?" (See Matthew 14:29-31 NIV).
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9 NIV).
Peter took a step before the storm calmed. That’s what bold faith looks like—trusting the One who calls, even when circumstances are still wild. When our eyes are on Jesus, we’re upheld by His strength.
Saying yes to God often leads us into the unknown. But He never asks us to go where He hasn’t already gone before us. Even when our confidence shakes, His grip is steady.
