Hope When It’s Heavy: Trusting God Is Good When Your Season Is NotSample

Even Though I’m Overwhelmed... I Will Trust the Truth
Overwhelm sometimes has a way of sneaking in quietly and then shouting. Maybe it’s the unending to-do list, a relational strain, or a crisis that knocked the wind from your lungs. You catch yourself saying, “I'm okay,” but something inside is quaking.
In Hope When It’s Heavy, I shared how even in seasons when life looked “fine” on the outside, I was starting to discover places where my soul’s garden needed tending. In seasons of overwhelm, those places in need of tending were amplified. There were old wounds I hadn't sought healing for, and unkind thoughts I allowed to take root. These things began shaping my identity in ways I didn’t even realize. The unkind thoughts weren’t just passing; they were thoughts I dwelled on and repeated to myself. Over time, they became well-worn neural pathways that I kept returning to.
God created our brains in such a way that the neural pathways we repeatedly traverse with our thoughts will begin to take root. If we’re not careful, we’ll revisit those pathways so frequently that they become a truth we believe about ourselves. This means that if we repeat and dwell upon unkind lies the enemy has whispered into our thoughts, if we’re not careful, we’ll begin to agree with them as though they're true. But God invites us to dig deeper and ask Him to identify, uproot, and replace those lies with His truth.
I’m so thankful that transformation begins not with performance, but with permission. You don’t have to “fix” your thoughts by force. Instead, you can renew your mind through Christ with truth, one surrendered, honest moment at a time.
Prayer:
Jesus, You see the overwhelm that weighs on my soul. You know the lies I’ve believed and the silent fears I’ve carried. Help me take every thought captive and make it obedient to You. Renew my mind and restore my peace. Even though I feel overwhelmed, I will trust in Your truth. Amen.
