Resurrection Encounters – Five Places Jesus Wants to Meet YouSample

Who is your favourite character from the Bible?
I have many, but right now, Simon Peter really stands out—especially after watching the TV series The Chosen, this character has really come to life for me.
His relationship with Jesus is genuine, raw and deeply personal. This becomes even more apparent during their encounter on the beach after Jesus’ resurrection (John 21:1-19).
Of all the disciples, Peter’s story is perhaps the most tragic. He seemed to be one of the strongest followers, definitely the most confident, making bold statements about his commitment to Jesus (Matthew 26:35). It is heartbreaking when he becomes afraid and betrays Jesus three times. Can you imagine the shame and regret he must have carried after this betrayal?
The fact that Peter went back to work his old job as a fisherman merely days after being faced with Jesus’ traumatic death and his mortifying failure tells me that maybe he was burying his feelings by going back to “normal” life.
Peter and the other disciples had been fishing all night. They were likely exhausted, possibly frustrated because they hadn’t caught anything, and probably hungry when Jesus started calling out to them from the shore (verse 5).
Peter didn’t come crawling back to Jesus after his mistake; Jesus came to him.
Jesus meets Peter by roasting fish and bread over a fire on the beach, caring for him in a practical way by cooking breakfast. While Peter is still licking the wounds created by his own betrayal, Jesus invites him to sit down and have a meal with him.
Are there things in your life over which you feel shame or regret? Imagine Jesus inviting you to sit down and have a meal with you. Talk to Him about the thing that has happened and the shame you feel inside.
What is Jesus saying to you in response?
