HE CALLS YOU BY NAME

All throughout Scripture, we see the Lord calling His children by their names. In the main passage today, we see the Lord engage in conversation with Samuel even before Samuel knew His voice. God called Samuel by name because He knew him. But Samuel didn’t recognize God’s voice because He didn’t know God yet. It wasn’t until he got counsel from Eli that he understood who was calling his name and how to respond. Once Samuel recognized God’s voice, He was able to cultivate a two-way conversation with God, which led him to eventually becoming one of the greatest prophets to walk this earth!

There is an open invitation to meet with your Heavenly Father today. Oftentimes, we may not recognize what God’s voice sounds like, so when He calls us, we are either slow to respond or do not respond at all. Conversation with God isn’t one-sided! When God calls your name, what is your response? God desires not only to know you, but for you to know Him.

Begin a conversation with God today. “Speak Lord, your servant is listening.”

PRAYER

God, thank You for calling me by name. When You call me to come away and talk with You, may my response be, “Lord, I’m coming.” Here I am. Speak Lord, Your servant is listening. Amen.

APPLICATION

• What is hindering you from hearing God clearly?
• Repent for allowing these things to keep you from hearing God.
• Begin a conversation with God by saying, “Here I am, Speak Lord your servant is listening.” Wait for His response.
