Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample

He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, but whoever walks wisely will be delivered (Proverbs 28:26).
Why can’t you trust your own heart?
We have all received a fallen nature from Adam. For this reason we should not live under the dictates of our heart. Jeremiah elaborates upon this, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). Rather, we need to allow the Lord to guide us through His Word, prayer, godly counsel, and by His orchestration of the circumstances in our life. “I, the LORD, search the heart,” continues Jeremiah, “I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings” (Jeremiah 17:10). Since only God knows us thoroughly, we should yield to His direction. The wise man shares, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5).
Employment Point: Allow God, not your heart, to guide you.
