Prepare and Watch
The garment to which Jesus refers has nothing to do with being "dressed for success." The Laodiceans in Revelation 3:18 were rich and had fine clothes, but Jesus spoke directly, "Buy from Me...white garments, that you may be clothed." Man's attempts to cover himself began in the Garden of Eden with inadequate fig leaves. It continues today with a multi-billion dollar fashion industry. But none of it can cover man's nakedness which is revealed in sin. The desperation by which man attempts to hide himself from God and convince himself of his own sufficiency shall all fall away on the day Jesus returns.
He will never shame us. He is a God of love and mercy, and He gives to us garments that are clean and acceptable. But it is our job to keep those garments on. Repentance for sin, staying current on attitudes and relationships, and an open heart toward Him keeps us "dressed" for the day He returns.
