Through the Bible: Psalms

DAY 11 OF 24

The Lord Is My Father

Sing to God, sing praises to His name; lift up a song to Him who rides through the deserts; His name is the Lord; exult before Him! (‭‭Psalm‬ ‭68:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬)‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

In this victorious psalm, David exalts the faithful God who gives victory over his enemies and makes his people feel secure.

King David says our God’s name is “the Lord." When Moses asked God to tell him His name, God said “I AM." These two words give me great comfort and assurance that God is everything I need Him to be for me. He is above everything, whether it is working for me or against me.

When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray, Jesus told them that God is “Our Father."

Jesus died to give us the right to be called children of God. This God-given identity calls for our response to follow the example of Jesus: the Son can do nothing of His own accord, but only what He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise.

Prayer

Father, we thank You for accepting us as Your sons and daughters. We pray that You will help us to live out our true identity on earth as it is in Heaven. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
