DAY 23 OF 50

A good (healthy) tree cannot bear bad (worthless) fruit, nor can a bad (diseased) tree bear excellent fruit [worthy of admiration]. Matthew 7:18 AMPC

People are known by their fruits in the same way that companies are known by their products. An important test for whether we are building a good company is if our products are "worthy of admiration" from not just customers but our Lord.

You may find millions of customers who truly admire the sexually explicit content that a media company produces; or the mind-bending substances that a beverage company sells, but the real question that should concern the believer is “what does heaven think about your product?” Do you truly believe that the Lord will say “well done, thou good and faithful servant?”

In developing products, it is good to aim for inherent goodness in that which is to be produced. Assuming that the believer takes to heart the admonition to think only on “ whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, ...” (Philippians 4:8 AMPC), it stands to reason that his business will only produce such things for “A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things...” (Matthew 12:35 KJV)

For the believer, therefore, product development is the expression of the burdens of the heart. Where the heart is burdened by vanity, the products that his business will create will ultimately fuel vain passions. Where the heart has succumbed to the deceitfulness of riches, the financial gain will become the key driver of product development, and in the end, only mammon will be glorified.

In addition to the inherent goodness of the product, it is also critical that whatever product bears the name of a believer also carries his mark of excellence. It is a shame to the name of the Lord if a believer is associated with shoddy work, because “the Lord of hosts, Who is wonderful in counsel [and] excellent in wisdom and effectual working.” (Isaiah 28:29 AMPC)

This is true whether you are delivering a tangible product or service. The believer is particularly required to serve humanity with utmost humility.
