A Kid's Guide To Acts

DAY 1 OF 7

Obey God—Always!

What do Daniel in the lions’ den, his three friends in the fiery furnace, and the apostles getting grilled by the Jewish religious leaders have in common? Think about what they were asked to do. In all three cases, someone wanted them to do something God said not to. And when they didn’t cave, their lives were on the line.

God used the apostles to heal a lot of people. The high priest and the other religious leaders were jealous of the apostles and growing church, so they had the apostles put in jail. An angel pulled off an amazing jail break, but the religious leaders brought the apostles back in for questioning. What were they supposedly doing wrong? They were teaching about Jesus and His resurrection. As we see in Acts 5:29, Peter and the other apostles refused to do what the ruling council said since it was the opposite of what God wanted them to do. In fact, in the three verses that follow, they shared the Gospel with the very people who threatened them for sharing the Gospel!

Are you faced with people trying to get you to do things you know are wrong? Before you make a choice, stop and pray. Ask God to help you know what to do.

What challenges and choices do you know you will face this week? How can the story of the apostles’ grilling session help you face your challenges?

Write down your toughest challenge on an index card in pencil. Using a dark marker, write the second half of Acts 5:29 on top of the challenge.
