DAY 96 OF 366

ELAH

“ELAH” is based on “EL” – the Strong One but contains an additional concept that God, “ELAH”, is worthy of worship. King Nebuchadnezzar was “a strong one” who had conquered kingdoms but he was still only a created being. He might have deserved honour but certainly not the worship that was only due to God. The context of Daniel’s declaration in chapter 2 is that God - “ELAH” has immeasurable wisdom and power. Contrast this with king Nebuchadnezzar’s dream which no human could interpret.

The book of Daniel contrasts the difference between honouring humans but only worshipping God. In chapter 2 only God – “ELAH” can reveal the meaning of the dream. Chapter 3 contains the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who refused to worship the king and were thrown into the fiery furnace. In chapter 4 Nebuchadnezzar refused to acknowledge the sovereignty of God and lost his mind and rule until he realised he should worship God. In chapter 5 king Belshazzar lost his kingdom because he exalted himself above God and in chapter 6 Daniel was thrown into the lions den because he refused to worship the king.

Our God “ELAH” is the only One worthy of our worship.

Prayer: Great, wise and powerful God ELAH I worship You
