Jesus cries from the cross - "Favour"
As He hung in physical agony on the cross, Jesus suffered the additional emotional pain of insult and mockery by those He came to save. This included people, soldiers and even a criminal crucified alongside Him. In those days, crucifixion was often in the form of a group execution. But one criminal was different. He acknowledged his own guilt and that he deserved to be punished by death for his misdemeanours. But He also acknowledged that Jesus was innocent and did not deserve to die.
In that moment, a spark of faith was ignited in his heart and he asked Jesus for help. Despite His own agony Jesus responded in mercy and grace by granting the criminal FAVOUR – the promise of eternal paradise available only to those who were guilt free.
Here is the gospel in a nutshell. Like the criminal, we deserve God’s punishment for our sins, but when a spark of faith ignites in our hearts and we call upon Jesus for help He grants us FAVOUR and the promise of eternal life. Although we never deserve it, none of us is too bad, too lost or too guilty and it is never too late to receive FAVOUR from Jesus.
Prayer: Lord Jesus I acknowledge my failings but ask for Your Favour to be with You in paradise
