JEHOVAH SHALOM
SHALOM is a Hebrew word meaning peace, harmony and prosperity. It can refer to peace between two entities or to the well-being of a person or persons. Although it can be extended in its application to God’s blessings of prosperity, its original context is more specific. Gideon has seen the Lord and thought such an encounter meant death. He was probably thinking of God’s warning to Moses, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live” (Exodus 33:20). God’s holiness would obliterate man in his sinfulness because we are enemies of God in our thinking and behaviour (Col.1:21).
But to Gideon, JEHOVAH becomes SHALOM and now a state of peace exists between them so Gideon no longer fears for his life in relationship with God but works with Him to free his people from oppression. Jesus has become our peace and ended all enmity between us and God because He has reconciled us to one another (Rom.5:1-11, Eph.2:13-18). Jesus has BECOME our righteousness, holiness, redemption and peace 1 Cor.1:30). We no longer need to be afraid of God but work with Him to free others who are under the oppression of the enemy of our souls.
Prayer: I rejoice in JEHOVAH SHALOM who has become MY peace through Jesus Christ
