JEHOVAH TSIDKENU
The verses in Jeremiah are regarded as being prophetic of the coming Jewish Messiah-King who would restore Israel’s glory. The righteous branch of David refers to a descendent of King David and this was fulfilled in Jesus. But notice the name – JEHOVAH TSIDKENU – the Lord becomes our righteousness.
Righteousness can be defined as a state of being right, pure, clean or blameless before God. Only when we are righteous can we draw close to a righteous God in a fully intimate relationship. The problem is that none of us are totally pure and those failings and imperfections create a barrier to relationship with a perfect God. I need righteousness but cannot produce it.
So JEHOVAH God Himself becomes our righteousness. Our imperfections and sins are transferred to Jesus and His righteousness is transferred to us (2 Cor.5:21). We become clean, pure and blameless in His sight (Eph.1:3-8). Now we are no longer conscious of our sins and failings but only conscious of our righteousness in Him. Our conscience is cleansed. We no longer feel guilty for our sins but grateful for our purity that enables us to experience intimacy with God because Jesus Himself has become our righteousness (Heb.10:17-22, 1 Cor.1:30).
Prayer: Thank You JEHOVAH TSIDKENU that I am righteous because of Jesus
