Kindness Leads to Compassion

As parents, it’s our job to nurture and guide a child so that kindness begins to come naturally. Throughout this plan we’ve learned the importance of modeling kindness to our kids, reacting in kindness, and helping them see areas where they can show kindness to others. As you continue working in these areas, we encourage you to applaud their efforts.

We all know that adults generally fold the laundry better, but when your children try to be kind by helping, applaud their effort. It won’t be long before their kindness at home spills over to helping others.

Gradually, we can expand our children’s circle of concern. Instead of only sharing kindness to people we know like our family and friends, we can encourage them to go outside of that circle. Perhaps the new kid in class needs a friend. That may be a great place to start. Then we can begin to think even broader. What about children in developing countries who need a friend as well? Compassion International can assist you with resources to teach kids about children in poverty.

God, help my children think outside themselves. Help them see what You are doing around the world and how You can use them to help.
