Nahum: When God Judges Evil | Video Devotional

During the evil reign of King Manasseh, God commissioned Nahum to prophesy the impending downfall of Assyria in 612 BC, an invincible empire subjugating nations in Mesopotamia and a dreadful oppressor to Israel for many centuries. Overwhelmed by darkness from both inside and out, the people of God would find comfort from Nahum that God will never leave the guilty unpunished and He is the refuge in times of trouble.

A century following Jonah’s proclamation of judgment and Nineveh’s repentance, Nineveh once again fell into sin. Nahum consoles Israel by prophesying the destruction of Nineveh and all of Assyria for the devastation they brought to God’s people. Justice Against Evil

When Habakkuk lodged his complaints about God’s “inaction” towards the wickedness of Judah, he was appalled to know that God would soon bring justice through Babylon, Judah’s vile enemy. God reassured Habakkuk that Babylon would eventually be punished and the righteous shall live by his faith. The book concludes with Habakkuk’s prayer to rejoice and place his trust in God, which sets a model for Christians to imitate amidst wickedness.
