I. Why Does God Save Us?
A. Verse 8 tells us that God saves us because of His grace (unmerited favor).
1. Is that how we as humans make decisions? For instance, when we pick teams on the playground, we choose to invite people into our group due to what that person can do for us. This can also be seen in the Greek fraternity system as well as in marriage.
2. Also, the fact that God is no respecter of persons can be seen through the fact that he chooses the barren women of the Bible to continue His promise to Abraham.
B. Cf. Deuteronomy 7.7-8
II. What Does It Do To Us?
A. It causes us to leave behind the former things in which we boasted and now boast in having been saved by Christ. We've left our former husband (master) behind to join in a covenant relationship with Christ. Therefore, we would be senseless to boast in our former husband (master).
III. How Should We Respond?
A. We should become the workmanship of God, doing his good works (cf. Eph 2.10).
1. As a result of an encounter with Christ, one should be moved to do the righteous works of Christ. You become the face of
Christ or spokesmen especially if the governing body of your life changes. The Holy Spirit can't move into your being and not produce righteous works; the righteousness is inevitable.
