What I want from you is steadfast love not simply dead sacrifices; I want you to know me intimately not simply give burnt offerings. But, like Adam, you have broken my covenant. How unfaithful you are to me! “Gilead is a city with streets stained with bloody footprints, a city known for its evildoers. “The priests are like a gang of robbers waiting in ambush, a gang of priests who commit murder on the road to Shechem. What heinous crimes they have committed! “I have witnessed a horrible thing in Israel’s temple; there Ephraim practices temple prostitution, grossly defiling Israel.
