1 Thessalonians 5:3-5

As the calendar turns let us emerge from our cocoons of old habits, ready to spread our wings and reach new heights of purpose and fulfillment. Just as the butterfly sheds its cocoon, emerging transformed and free to soar, let this New Year be our cocoon of change. Like the butterfly, we shed the unproductive traditions of the past, allowing our spirits to unfurl, vibrant and renewed.

This plan will explore what the letter of 1 Thessalonians teaches us in four major areas. 1) WHO GOD IS: God’s character and nature 2) WHO WE ARE: the identity of humanity and/or believers 3) WHAT WE BELIEVE: core Christian doctrines 4) HOW WE LIVE: putting faith into action

During Advent, not only do we anticipate an event that has already taken place – Jesus’s first coming – but we also look forward to and anticipate his second coming! In this plan, designed to be used during any of the days of the Advent season, we will reflect on 1 Thessalonians as we prepare our hearts to celebrate Christmas.

The same way winning a marathon requires a high level of physical fitness, we must be spiritually fit in order to run well the life God has set before us. Over the next 5 days, you’ll be conditioned to run this race to win. We’ll face the hurdle of hopelessness head on. We’ll discover how to stay encouraged and keep our fires burning for God no matter what challenges await.
