Free gift (contrast) is not like the offense (sin)
Emphasis on offense used twice but gift and grace used 4 times. Paul is emphasizing how abundant Gods grace is.
How to we experience that gift?
More contrast about the result in v.16:
-Condemnation (judgement) vs justification (free gift)
Justification: Bc of Gods grace he sees you as someone who has never sinned
Why does that matter?
Rev 21:27- Anything that defiles will not enter heaven, only those written in the book of life; God can't interchange with anyone who is defiled he cannot fellowship with sin or invite it into his home so our only hope is to have that sinned removed; We can never say we deserve Gods grace, that's what it's so beautiful
-Reigning in death vs reigning in life
The Shepherds Extent
V 15-Christ's grace is so extensive it covers all of mans sins; Death is so extensive it reaches all men as well
Titus 2:11-12- Grace appeared to all men: teaching us that grace appeared to all men, but not all men accepted: grace requires something; For you to have Gods grace to have to choose to have a relationship with him, if you do not want a relationship it breaks his heart but he will allow you to do that (again death vs grace)
The Shepherds Efficacy
5:17-Gift of righteousness will reign in life to those who receive abundance of grace; Bc of his blood, he sees Christ's righteousness in us on judgement day; rewarded as someone that in a sense you are not
What does that look like today? Life reigning in me?
-Giving best and trying to always be working on the standard of Jesus Christ; bc of Gods grace that's what I want to become
-if Christ's righteousness reigns in my life
God doesn't see my past sins
