The Secret to LIFE
Raising a family is not one of the easiest jobs to have, but one of the most profound and wonderful blessing God has given to us.
Yes children are a gift and a blessing from God and there is no two ways about it. It is also one of the toughest acts and responsibility God gives us, because in reality, though they belong to us, they are Gods children first. He is the Father to all of our sons and daughters and we are just stewards of them.
There are only to ways to raise them, (1) Acknowledging God or (2) Not acknowledging God. The sad part is the ones who do not teach the ways of the Lord.
You see, when I was growing up, and my parents, Lord bless them, did what only what they knew was right. Did they teach me of God? Not really, but in a round about way they did let me know that there was one, but not who He was.
It was not until many years later that I learned of truly who He was and that He sent His Son to earth to die in my place. You see, I went to church off and on through out my life and at one point was a very good C.E.O and so was my brothers. If you are wondering what C.E.O stands for, that is Christmas and Easter only church goers.
That is right, my brothers and I attended mass for years on Christmas and Easter and sometimes in my youth Sunday School, but never learned anything except that Sunday school was fun because the projects we did, but that only lasted a few years.
It was not until the Jesus movement in the 70's when things started to take place. I wanted to date a young lady at the who was a Christian and basically went to church with her and her family. Didn't listen much to the services, it was just a place to where she attended and I just went for the ride. But my ears were opened and one night it all hit at once and stormed out of the building only to be meet by the pastor, who ended who service prematurely and meet me outside in the parking lot where I ask God to come into my life.
Whoops, left my path, no not really so where am I going with all this? Well, it gives you a small insight into my life and the direction my parents took in not teaching or advising me of the God.
Am I criticizing them? No, they didn't know better, they did what they could.
You see as a parent the greatest thing and advice you can give your children when they are growing up and developing to be adults is to acknowledge God.
King David did as we see in my text.
"And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve Him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind......"
Now that is advice where you cannot go wrong, though they have a right to act on this device or not, at least you did your job as a parent and you really don't have to fret if they turned the other cheek for awhile. They have in there heart the knowledge of what is right and if they have turn and walk, remember God is in control of their lives and one day as the scriptures teach us; Proverbs 22:6
"Train up a child in the way they should go, and we he is old he will not turn depart from it. (NKJV)"
That is the good news and the other news that I get from my text is that Gods way is the SECRET to LIFE! Yes as we refer back to my text:
"....for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought...."
You see He wants to reward us with gifts and just not in heaven, but here on earth and the requirement is following Him and His ways, obedience is the key and when we do, our lives will prosper and is fulfilled with a joy that surpasses all human understanding as we face trials, conflicts and tribulation just as the ones who don't proclaim Jesus. Because we have a hope and a future knowing that what ever we go through, we have our Father in heaven there to help us through all storms of life.
Yes my point is teaching your children the ways of God and not only teaching them but also being a living example as God blesses in the good times and bad times so they can see Him work in our lives.
In conclusion, remember, especially in storms of life, our children are watching and if they think God is lost, as parents, standing on His promises they will see the when we "Seek Him, He will be found by you and me." What a perfect example of living a life in comfort in a world that is in chaos.
So I will repeat, the secret of life which needs to be passed on from generation to generation until the day He either calls us or returns to earth is to follow Him and tell others about His great love that He has for you, me and those we witness to who have lost hope and are searching for the meaning and secret of life.
Yes, following Jesus is the Secret to Life, a successful, prosperous and joyful life that passes all under standing that even we who live it can't explain except that Jesus is our pilot guiding us though all things!
