Promise VS Instruction
God is not man and he knows everything. He had given instruction, but Saul decided to do what he thought better and then 'split' the loot with God thru his sacrifice.
What made him different from Abraham and Sarah who tried to help God with Ishmael? I guess God needed them to trust in his PROMISE, then he CHOSE Abraham himself and they were friends.
For Saul, it was an INSTRUCTION, not a PROMISE. So it was a matter of OBEDIENCE not TRUST/FAITH in God. Then again, Saul wasn't God's choice. His position was man-made. SELAH
