이런 일이 있은 지 얼마 뒤에, 하나님이 아브라함 을 시험해 보시려고, 그를 부르셨다. “ 아브라함 아!” 하고 부르시니, 아브라함 은 “예, 여기에 있습니다” 하고 대답하였다. 하나님이 말씀하셨다. “너의 아들, 네가 사랑하는 외아들 이삭 을 데리고 모리아 땅으로 가거라. 내가 너에게 일러주는 산에서 그를 번제물로 바쳐라.” 아브라함 이 다음날 아침에 일찍이 일어나서, 나귀의 등에 안장을 얹었다. 그는 두 종과 아들 이삭 에게도 길을 떠날 준비를 시켰다. 번제에 쓸 장작을 다 쪼개어 가지고서, 그는 하나님이 그에게 말씀하신 그 곳으로 길을 떠났다. 사흘 만에 아브라함 은 고개를 들어서, 멀리 그 곳을 바라볼 수 있었다.
