SA’YO LAMANG

(Yours Alone)

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
1 John 3:1

What’s so great about the love of God? In a nation where one can grow up hearing about God’s love, familiarity can creep in and people fail to realize the essence of what makes His love so great. We sometimes fail to grasp its depth and look for love elsewhere. So what does it truly mean when we say that God loves us? What does His love look like?

First John 3:1 tells us that because of the Father’s love, He sent His Son so we can be called His children. Imagine Jesus, God’s only Son, humbling Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross, for you and me. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross led to our salvation. He considered us His friends and laid down His life for us. The only proper response to this truth is humility and awe. As His people, our response is to acknowledge that we are His, and declare His great love and the amazing things He is doing in our lives.

The song “Sa’Yo Lamang” is about the greatness of Jesus, narrating the facets of His holiness. Yet, it also shows how personal He is and how much He loves us—He humbled Himself through His death on the cross. The song revolves around the theme of the cross and the forgiveness we have through Christ.

God’s love pursued us. Jesus came to seek and find the lost (Luke 19:10). As our great shepherd, He rejoices when we are found (Luke 15:5–7). Because of His love and grace, we receive forgiveness and experience a relationship with Him.

What’s so great about the love of this great God? His love for us is unconditional. It is not dependent on what we can or can not do. His love is not centered on who we are, but on who God is. God is love.

This great love saved us from death, and will continually save us from whatever situation we find ourselves in.

Nothing can separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:38–39). We belong to Him.

Respond

  • How does the truth that God found you (Luke 19:10) change the way you see your relationship with Him?
  • Which picture of God’s love (as a Father calling us His children, as a friend laying down His life, or as a shepherd seeking the lost) speaks most to you right now, and why?
  • How would you respond to God, knowing that because of His great love, you belong to Him? Take a moment to declare in prayer, “Lord, I am Yours alone,” as an act symbolizing your commitment to God.

Pray

Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me with a love so great that You humbled yourself at the cross for my salvation. I repent for the times I’ve taken for granted Your love for me and have sought for love elsewhere. Thank You for finding me, calling me Your child, and declaring that I am Yours. Today, I surrender my whole life to You. I declare with my whole being that “I am Yours alone” and that nothing can separate me from Your love. Amen.
